1.2 CID Based part identification number (PIN). A document based PIN to identify type, grade, size, and style of items is included in section 5. This identification numbering procedure is for Government purposes and does not constitute a requirement for the contractor except as information on “Government unique” data nameplates (see 5.4).
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:
2.1 Design and construction. Steam tables shall be fabricated of 300 series stainless steel as listed in American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard A167 and shall be of the types, styles, and sizes as specified (see 1.1). The top shall be constructed of type 304, 18.8, 18 gauge stainless steel to provide the strength necessary to support the pans without distortion. Tables shall be 30 inches wide (nominal) and 34 inches high (nominal) from floor to table top. Table top openings shall be designed to accommodate standard 12inch by 20 inch full size pans and smaller sizes down to 1/3 size pans. Table shall be enclosed on three sides with the attendant’s side open and shall be provided with a full length lower shelf with a turned down flange on the attendant’s side. The side opposite the attendant side shall be provided with a back-splash of at least 6 inches high. The body frame shall be an integral unit with provisions for supporting legs. Size 1 tables shall have four legs with adjustable feet. Size 2 and 3 tables shall have six legs with adjustable feet. Tables shall be for electrical elements or steam pipes as required. Each table shall be equipped with a faucet securely mounted at the table end and an overflow tube.
2.1.1 Protector shelf (type I tables). The protector shall be the same length as the table top, securely mounted to the table, and shall be approximately 16 inches above the table and shall have a glass front.
2.1.2 Type I tables (steam heated). The contractor shall provide all valves required for installation of the table. The steam coil shall extend the entire length of the tank and shall be designed to operate with saturated steam at a pressure not to exceed 40 psig. A thermostat shall also be provided.
2.1.3 Type II table (electrically heated). Unless otherwise specified type II tables shall operate on a 208 V, single-phase, 60 Hz system (see 5.2). Provisions shall be made for grounding of the table. Heating elements shall be provided at a 5000 wattage rating for size 1 tables, 6000 wattage rating for size 2 tables, and 9000 wattage rating for size 3 tables. Each heating element shall be provided with a thermostat and a low water cutoff.
2.1.4 Type III tahles (gas heated). Type III tables shall be designed to operate on natural gas with provisions for liquefied petroleum gas (LFG).
