COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
WARMER, FOOD, PORTABLE, INFRARED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description in preference to Type I of MIL-F-43883.
1. CLASSIFICATION.
1.1 Classification. This commercial item description covers a portable, infrared food warmer.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Design and construction. The warmer shall be designed to keep cooked foods placed in the pan at a serving temperature of 140°F in an ambient temperature of 72°F. The warmer shall be a portable, counter-top unit consisting of a heat unit(s), reflector(s), holding pan, rack, frame, and an ON-OFF switch. Temperature shall be controlled by adjusting the height of the heat unit(s) or by varying the input power with an infinite control switch. Parts requiring replacement shall be readily accessible without special tools.
2.2 Electrical characteristics. The food warmer shall be rated for operation on 115 volts, 60 Hertz, single phase power source, and shall be equipped with a 6-foot long, UL listed, three–conductor cord with a NEMA 5–15P plug.
2.3 Heat unit. The heat unit(s) shall utilize two standard commercial 250 watt infrared heat lamps or a tubular infrared heating element, pyrex or alloy sheathed, rated at 500 watts. Reflector(s) shall be used for optimum heat utilization. Warmers with adjustable height heat units shall have provisions for holding the frame firmly at any height within the adjustment range. The projected heating area at lowest setting for height shall cover all contents in a nominal 20 inch by 12 inch (full size) food service pan.
