3.3 End item testing. One cold food counter from the production lot shall be tested as specified below. Any test failure shall be cause for rejection of the lot.
3.3.1 Refrigerant leakage test. With the refrigeration system “OFF”, the complete refrigeration system shall be tested for leaks with an electronic leak detector. If a leak is found it shall constitute failure of this rest.
3.3.2 Operational test.
3.3.2.1 Type I. The refrigeration unit shall be operated in a minimum ambient temperature of 800F for the period of 1 hour to have the frost top area completely covered with frost. If frost top area is not completely covered with frost in 1 hour, it shall constitute failure of this test.
3.3.2.2 Type II. The refrigeration unit, with the required number of empty food storage pans in place shall be operated in a minimum ambient temperature of 800F for 30 minutes. After the initial 30 minutes, immediately place 370F ± 30F temperature water in the food storage pans to a height of ¾ of the depth of the pans. Continue to operate the unit for a period of 1 hour. During the 1-hour period, the temperature of the water in each food storage pan shall be checked every 5 minutes to determine that the water temperature remains at 370F ± 300F, it shall constitute failure of the test.
3.3.3 Electrical usage test.
3.3.3.1 Type I. During the operational of the 3.3.2.1, readings shall be taken every 10 minutes to determine the watts used, and if the wattage exceeds 775 watts for size 1, or 1100 watts for sizes 2 and 3, it shall constitute failure of the test.
3.3.3.2 Type II. During the operational of the 3.3.2.2, readings shall be taken every 10 minutes to determine the watts used, and if the wattage exceeds 775 watts for size 4, or 1100 watts for sizes 5 and 6, it shall constitute failure of the test.
