2. Cooking power. The oven shall deliver a minimum of 1800W cooking power.
3. Cooking cavity. The cooking cavity shall be constructed in a rectangular shape and have a capacity of not less than 0.9 cubic feet (cu ft). Ovens with viewing screens shall have the cooking cavity illuminated. The light shall automatically activate when the door is opened. It shall also remain lighted while a cooking cycle is in progress.
4. Electrical characteristics. The microwave oven shall be designed for operation on 208/240 Volts (V) alternating current (AC), or 120 V AC, 60 Hertz (Hz), single phase power. The maximum amperage shall not exceed 20A. The maximum power input shall not exceed 5500W. The power cord shall be not less than a minimum of 2 feet long and not more than 6 feet long external of the unit, equipped with either a 3 wire or 4 wire grounding type plug. All electric motors shall have permanently sealed bearings which require no additional lubrication for the life of the motor. A bleeder resistor or other suitable power dissipating device shall be provided to bleed the charge from the magnetron power supply capacitor when the oven is turned off. The voltage across the capacitor shall be less than 50V within 30 seconds after the power supply is turned off.
5. Controls. All controls shall be located in the front of the oven except the main power disconnect which may be located on the side but be readily accessible from the front of the oven. When desired, the following options shall be provided:
a. A heat control function which varies the power level output in the cooking cavity.
b. A defrost function.
Oven times shall provide minimum control functions of ON, OFF, timed cooking cycles and automatic termination of the oven operation after the completion of timing cycle. An audible signal shall sound at the end of the timing cycle or at the end of a cooking cycle. The oven shall have provisions for operation on half power. The microwave energy source shall be inoperative when the door is opened. The timer shall be either a dial, pushbutton, combination dial and pushbutton or digital touchpad control type. Single dial type timers shall have a minimum time setting of not more than 15 seconds, and the maximum time setting shall be not less than 5 minutes. When two dial type timers are provided, one timer shall have a maximum time setting not less than 30 minutes.
