COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
OVEN, MICROWAVE, ELECTRIC
(1800 – 2199 WATT MICROWAVE POWER OUTPUT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description (CID) in preference to type II, size 2000; groups 3, 4, and 5; styles 1, 2, 3, and 4; classes 2 and 3 of Federal Specification S-O-1425.
Abstract. This CID covers 1800-2199 watt (W) commercially rated and approved microwave oven intended for use as a means of preparing and reconstituting food. Household and shipboard uses of microwave ovens are specifically excluded.
Salient characteristics:
1. Description. The microwave oven shall include all components necessary to ensure a fully functional product. All hardware and fittings shall be corrosion-resistant or suitably processed to resist corrosion in accordance with the manufacturer’s standard practice. The Microwave energy source(s) shall be rendered inoperative when the oven door is opened. Means shall be provided for protection of the microwave energy source(s) from damage caused by excessive reflected microwave radiation from the cooking cavity under small or no load conditions. The power supply shall be protected against overload conditions by fuses or resettable circuit breakers. A forced air circulation system shall be provided which will exhaust water vapor and cooking vapors from the cooking cavity. The ovens shall be furnished with an air intake filter which shall be removable and readily accessible for cleaning or replacement. The oven shall be designed to permit easy accessibility for maintenance and service.
