2.3 Type II. Type II toasters shall be gas heated. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), type II toasters shall be supplied to operate on natural gas. The orifice hoods or spuds installed for natural gas shall be unpainted brass. The toasters shall be capable of being converted to burn liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Black color-coded orifice hoods or spuds along with complete instructions shall be furnished for conversion to LPG. Unless otherwise specified, a pressure regulator for natural gas shall be furnished with each toaster. Each toaster shall be furnished with a 60-inch connector conforming to Z21.45 and a quick disconnect conforming to Z21.41. The toaster shall be equipped with means for automatic ignition of gas. A pilot including a 100 percent shut-off device shall be provided for each toaster burner. The pilot shall automatically shut off the gas to all toaster burners including the toaster pilot burners in the event ignition becomes inoperative. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), toasters shall be designed to operate on 120 volts, 60 hertz, l-phase power supply and shall be supplied with a 6-foot cord and a NEMA 5-15 plug.
2.4 Design, construction and performance. The toaster shall be capable of toasting bread slices or bun halves. The toasters shall have an electric motor driven conveyor system. The toaster shall be capable of evenly toasting 4-1/2 inch by 4-1/2 inch bread slices at the minimum rate of 540 slices per hour for size 1, and 720 slices per hour for size 2, and 950 slices per hour for size 3. The toasters shall not exceed 35 inches in height, 20 inches in width, and 24 inches in depth. The outer shell of the toaster shall be fabricated from stainless steel and shall have an opening for placement of bread or bun slices on the conveyor racks. Means shall be provided to catch and dispose of crumbs. Means shall be provided for obtaining light, medium or dark colored toast or buns. Unless otherwise specified (see 5.2), all toasters shall be provided with four removable and adjustable legs providing for a minimum of 4 inches space below the base of the toaster.
2.5 Lubrication. All bearings, revolving shafts, and other rotating or sliding parts requiring periodic lubrication shall be provided with means for lubrication and shall be lubricated prior to shipment.
2.6 Data name plate (Government unique requirement see 5.4). The toaster shall be furnished with a data name plate in accordance with the applicable requirements of MIL-STD-130 except the requirement for; (a) Methods of applying (b) Identification tags, (c) Information not required and (d) optional marking information shall not apply. The data name plate shall be made of minimum 20 gauge corrosion-resisting metal and attached to the toaster by rivets, screws or by welding in such a manner as to meet the applicable NSF requirements for this equipment. The plate shall bear the following information which shall be stamped, engraved, or applied by photosensitive means:
