KETTLES, STEAM JACKETED; TWIN; 5-GALLON; TILTING,
CABINET MOUNTED; NATURAL GAS HEATED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to MIL-K-43943.
1. ABSTRACT
1.1 Abstract. This commercial item description covers natural gas heated, cabinet mounted, tilting, 5-gallon twin steam-jacketed kettles.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The tilting kettle assembly shall consist of two 5 + 1; -0 gallons capacity, 300 series stainless steel, steam jacketed tilting kettles with trunnion(s) mounted on an enclosed cabinet base. The completely assembled unit shall be provided with all piping, valves, drains, gauges, etc., for connection to gas, electric, and water supplies. Kettles shall operate at a range of 150°F to not less than 240°F by means of steamed generated in a gas heated boiler housed in the cabinet base.
2.1.1 Tilting kettles. Tilting kettles shall be thermostatically operated at a pressure not to exceed 15 pounds p[er square inch gauge (psig) and shall be provided with a steam jacket with a 30 psi to 50 psi steam rating. The kettles shall have tilt handles, a hot/cold serving spout faucet, a removable cover with handle or knob, a pouring lip, and a means for complete drainage. Each kettle shall be equipped with a safety valve and a control valve to control the steam supply from the generator to the kettle.
